CORNER OF NELSON AND WATER: Selectmen approve eminent domain taking for sidewalk

“Willis, speaking for the real estate trust that towns the property at the ocean-end of Nelson Street, was fighting an eminent zone taking of a sidewalk-wide stretch of land on the northern side of Nelson Street, just east of the old train tracks.
Willis argued that the curve in Water Street, leading into Nelson Street where his property is located, is too dangerous a spot for a sidewalk.
In his experience, Willis said, cars taking the curve too fast – especially those traveling from Water to Nelson streets – tend to slide into his wall on the northern side of the road. Eventually, Willis predicted, pedestrians on that side of the road are going to be hurt.”
