No more fan fare for Fanfare site in Aurora
“The Fanfare building, near East Third Avenue, was a shopping center in the 1960s. The building resembles a soccer ball sliced in half sitting on concrete.
A year ago, the city of Aurora’s Urban Renewal Authority purchased the 10½-acre site for $4 million from Capitol Financial Ventures. The company is now ready to abate the asbestos from the outside of the building and then demolish it. Asbestos has already been removed from the inside.
The city still needs to sign off on the stormwater management plan for the demolition, but once that is approved by the city, it’s goodbye Fanfare. Demolition could come in the next few weeks.
“We have to do something,” said City Councilwoman Marsha Berzins, whose ward includes the Fanfare location. “Once it comes down, our options will be open.””
