Protesters oppose golf course acquisition
“Carrying signs, Gadsden flags and a bullhorn, opponents of the Phoenixville Area School District’s eminent domain acquisition of Meadow Brook Golf Club protested at the intersection of Route 724 and Kimberton Road Saturday afternoon.
“What they’re doing is just theft,” said Steve Piotrowski, one of the head organizers of a group called Citizens for Liberty, which organized the protest. “The family just stopped by, they were in tears, thanking us. They said it’s theft. They’re not willing to sell (the golf club) for the price they want.”
Citizens for Liberty, a group advocating smaller government and “fiscal responsibility,” organized the protest, which attracted a dozen supporters and supportive honks and waves from passing cars and trucks every minute or so.
Those protesting held up signs reading, “Phoenixville schools steal land!” “Save Meadow Brook,” and “Eminent Domain is Stealing! Stop the School Board!” among other things.
“(We want to) let people know the school board is stealing property. And if they’re not stopped, anybody’s property could be next,” said Jim Babb, a protester.”
