Pooler avoids eminent domain use in property deal

“A $1.2 million agreement has been reached between parties involved in a Pooler land battle in which the city had threatened to seize a local family’s property through eminent domain to build a government office complex.

City officials announced and voted on the agreement near the conclusion of Monday night’s council meeting. The agreement, which was to be signed by Mayor Mike Lamb, takes the eminent domain threat off the table and clears the Patel family of an estimated $2 million in debt.

Closing on the deal is expected to occur in early December.

However, approval of the deal is clouded by a late decision to place it and a related lease agreement, temporarily moving police headquarters, on Monday’s meeting agenda.”
