Easements for Ursina Borough sewage project complete
“The last of the property easements needed for Ursina Borough’s sanitary sewer project was obtained Wednesday through eminent domain proceedings in Somerset County court.
Eminent domain is a legal right-of-use taking of privately owned land for a public use.
About 100 residents had agreed to allow the borough to run lines through their property for the state-mandated project. Eight property owners did not. None of the property owners attended the court proceedings before Judge David C. Klementik.
The sewer system will include a 36,000-gallon-per-day treatment plant, a pumping station and approximately 3.5 miles of 8-inch gravity sewer lines. The system will serve 132 users. To do so, the lines must run through roughly 100 properties.”
