Lynchburg moves to acquire house using eminent domain
“Lynchburg is moving to initiate eminent domain proceedings against a Wards Ferry Road home for use in the Heritage High School project.
The 2.39-acre property at 3010 Wards Ferry Road, next to the school entrance, is the last of six tracts the city has been working to acquire.
Owner Wayne Henson has the site on the market but said the city’s offer was too low, and he wouldn’t accept it.
“I’m not the bad guy here who’s been holding out,” Henson said. “They established a fair market value, and that’s all I’m asking for. Fair market value based on what they paid others.”
The city has purchased five other neighboring properties that now will be part of Heritage when that school is rebuilt.
The properties are slated to become the school’s new baseball and softball fields.”
