Mohegan Sun official denies that Palmer casino project will require takings of homes, businesses
“A Mohegan Sun official maintained on Friday that the resort casino project planned for the hillside on Thorndike Street will not require any takings of homes or businesses.
“We will not need anybody’s home or businesses . . . We don’t need the cemetery, the church, nothing of that size and scope,” Paul I. Brody, Mohegan’s development coordinator, said.
Brody is responding to concerns voiced by the anti-casino group regarding the use of eminent domain for the project proposed for Route 32 across from the Massachusetts Turnpike interchange.
The host community agreement, unveiled in late August, includes a section that states: “To the extent the power of eminent domain may be required, the town agrees to consider the use of such authority in good faith and in furtherance of the infrastructure improvements that will serve or provide a public purpose.””
