Bassin calls for tabling airport expansion plan

“Supervisor Art Bassin has called upon supervisors to stop the takeover of part of Meadowgreens Golf Course, for a safety zone expansion project at the Columbia County Airport.

Bassin will be making a motion to stop the eminent domain process next week at the full board meeting of the county supervisors.

Supervisors voted earlier this year to offer the owners of Meadowgreens Golf Course $629,000 for approximately 16 acres of land, including two golf holes plus easements, in order to create an expanded security zone for the adjacent airport.

But that offer was rejected by Meadowgreens Golf Course principal owner Carmen Nero and the county has since moved to take the property by eminent domain. That would require the county to hire outside counsel and go to court to force Nero and the golf course’s owners to turn the property over to the county for $629,000.”
