Prince William County will use eminent domain for major road project
“The Prince William Board of County Supervisors will decide Tuesday whether to use its eminent domain authority to take pieces of 19 privately-owned properties, clearing the way for a long awaited highway project.
The properties front Hoffman Drive, Pennington Lane, Haversack Lane and the Prince William Parkway. They all have one thing in common: The county claims their owners refused offers ranging from $200 to $79,354 for the right-of-way and easements needed to widen the Prince William Parkway to six lanes from Old Bridge Road to Minnieville Road.
County voters authorized the project by referendum in 2006.
Five of the properties are owned by the Trustees of Mount Zion Baptist Church, three by Norma McKenny Carpenter, two by MFI LLC, two by Joe Mehrdad Djassebi and the rest by an assortment of private land holders.”
