McPier sues to acquire land needed for DePaul arena

“McCormick Place officials went to court Tuesday to pursue a key parcel of land needed to build a DePaul arena and adjacent 500-room hotel, its second legal move to assemble the necessary properties.

The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, the state-city agency that owns the convention center, filed an eminent domain lawsuit to acquire a parcel at 230 E. Cermak Rd. from Oak-Brook based CenterPoint Properties Trust, an industrial real estate firm.

The authority, known as McPier, declined comment Wednesday morning as did CenterPoint.

Earlier this summer McPier filed an eminent domain lawsuit aimed at gaining a neighboring parcel from Lakeside Bank.

Both are on a block immediately north of the convention center’s West Building.”
