Dispute over Straub land value heads to court
“Two schools sit atop grassy hills of what was once the farmland of former Gov. Robert Straub, surrounded by winding roads that loop through West Salem.
Before Straub Middle School and Kalapuya Elementary School opened in 2011, a legal battle already had begun about the price of the 48.28-acre parcel.
The dispute, which has continued for more than three years, could come to an end this month.
On Tuesday, jury selection for the case is scheduled to begin in Polk County Circuit Court, marking the beginning of a trial in which jurors will determine the property’s value.
“We’re pleased that this is finally going to get resolved,” said Paul Dakopolos, an attorney for the Salem-Keizer school district.”
