Town is still looking at eminent domain
“Back on March 4 the Town Council voted unanimously to use the town’s eminent domain powers if necessary to buy the Florence Copper Project. Is the town currently working on a way to acquire the land, or did the town back off that when the town backed off the sulfuric acid ban?
The town is still moving down the road. We are still investigating, looking at the entire project. Council passed the eminent domain … we’re still looking at that avenue. Coming off the acid ban ordinance was one aspect. It’s not that the town decided to back off the opposition or the concerns the Town Council had, but it was more of a strategy in trying to look at the overall perspective of how the council wanted to handle the issue. I think the town is still moving down the road with the eminent domain process, it does take a little bit of time. Where that’s going to go is ultimately still going to be decided by the council. … We provide the council as much information as possible — the pros, the cons everything. We know they’re getting feedback from the community. We just want to make sure whatever decision council makes, they had all the information available to them.”
