Mount Laurel couple in a tough fight against easement

“When the workers arrived at Bill and Dora Welsh’s home Monday morning, they brought a large backhoe, but provided the couple with no legal paperwork for what they were about to do:
Take down several large arborvitae on the Welshes’ property that had protected their 100-year-old Craftsman home from the noise and traffic on Union Mill Road.

The removal of the bushes is the first part of a 10-foot widening of Union Mill Road for improvements and the installation of a bicycle path — and the latest chapter in a long-running legal skirmish between the Welshes and the township.

When the existing sidewalk, built on a previous easement on the Welshes’ property, is replaced with one farther onto their property, it will leave the couple with a 20-foot-wide front yard.”
