Toltec Governing Board invokes eminent domain to acquire final piece of school site
” The Toltec Elementary School District Governing Board is pursuing eminent domain to acquire a nearly 20-acre site needed for its new charter school.
The board voted 3-1 Aug. 21 to go to court to obtain the remaining 40 percent of land needed for its K-12 Cambridge Preparatory Academy.
The district, which previously had a middle school in the Toltec section of Eloy and a K-4 school in Arizona City, now has two K-8 sites, Toltec Elementary School and Arizona City Elementary School, with Cambridge opening this year at the Arizona City site. The plan is to build a new campus in Arizona City for it.
District Assistant Superintendent Jeff Van Handel said that in order for Cambridge to have its new campus by the start of the 2014-15 academic year, the district must finalize the acquisition of the land soon.”
