FISCAL COURT VOTES AGAINST PIPELINE

“Magistrates passed a resolution Thursday opposing a natural gas liquids pipeline planned to run through Franklin County, citing environmental and safety concerns and unanswered questions from company representatives.

The move carries no legal power, but makes Franklin the first county in Kentucky to take a formal position on the issue, according to Chris Schimmoeller, president of Envision Franklin County and a resident strongly against the project.

The Bluegrass Pipeline could transport up to 400,000 barrels of natural gas drilling byproducts daily from mining regions northeast of Kentucky to the Gulf Coast.

The natural gas liquids — a mixture of chemicals such as propane and butane — would be primarily used to make plastics, a Williams representative has stated. Williams is partnering with Boardwalk Pipeline Partners to establish the roughly 1,100-mile pipeline.

Judge-Executive Ted Collins and magistrates Don Sturgeon, Larry Perkins and Jill Robinson voted for the resolution against the pipeline.

Magistrate Phillip Kring voted against the resolution. Magistrate Lambert Moore voted present, and Magistrate Huston Wells did not attend.”
