Saloon owner rejects Greensboro’s offer of $2,500
“The city couldn’t agree on sales terms with the owner of the dilapidated Cascade Saloon, according to the city attorney’s office.
The City Council had given owner Ross Strange until noon Friday to decide whether he would sell the building to the city.
The council and Strange were more than $800,000 apart on the proposed sale price — meaning the courts will end up settling the issue.
The city has been fighting with Strange for years over the 408-410 S. Elm St. building, one of the oldest downtown.
It has been abandoned for decades and has a damaged roof and collapsed floors.
City officials went to court years ago to demolish the structure. But preservationists argue the building should be saved.”
