Yelm property owner fights over eminent domain
“Yelm City Council delayed until Sept. 10 whether to approve an ordinance that will allow the city to use eminent domain to acquire property it says is necessary to improve Mosman Avenue.
The owner of the property is fighting the city’s attempt to acquire his property, saying the city is offering to pay less than two-thirds of what the property’s value was more than 20 years ago.
According to a public notice released by the city, the property acquisition is necessary “for the purpose of improving the intersection of Mosman Avenue and First Street S.,” as well as for trail improvements and “associated public improvements within the City.””
