Lancaster County’s use of eminent domain for bridge project under fire by landowner

“Lancaster County commissioners intend to use eminent domain to take part of a West Lampeter Township property owner’s land for a bridge replacement project.

Commissioners Scott Martin and Craig Lehman said it was unfortunate the county couldn’t reach an agreement with the owner, but the land was needed for the Eckman Road bridge project.

The owner of 150 Eckman Road, Randal Hayes Brown, said he wants fair compensation and that the county isn’t offering it.

The commissioners are expected to pay Brown $851.75 to permanently take 684 square feet — or just under a quarter of a tennis court — of his property and for temporary access to about 2,000 square feet of his land.”
