Chili farm, RG&E at odds over substation
“For more than a year and a half, Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. went through the regulatory steps to win rights and build a substation and power lines on a farm in a Rochester suburb.
There was just one major problem: The farm’s fourth-generation owners, the Krenzers, say they knew nothing about it.
Now the Krenzers are seeking to overturn a state ruling last April that gives the power company eminent domain over roughly 80 acres of the family’s 360-acre farm in Chili.
“From our perspective, they took every aspect — the placing of the substation, the placement of the access road, the pathway (where) they are running the circuits — and said, how can we do the most damage to Krenzer Farms?” said Marie Krenzer, whose husband’s family has owned the farm.”
