Meeting to address eminent domain regarding highway expansion project
“The state Transportation Department wants to expand the section of N.C. 268 to two lanes in each direction from the existing multi-lane section at N.C. 18 to State Road 1966, also known as Airport Road.
The cost of the project is estimated at $28.7 million – spending $9 million on purchasing the right of way and $19.7 million on construction.
The Durham law firm said the state plans to use eminent domain to take part, or all, of more than 90 business and residential properties. Eminent domain is used often by state officials to obtain land for projects such as highways and government buildings.”
