Ark City commission votes to begin process of acquiring land for water plant project
“The City Commission of Arkansas City voted unanimously on Tuesday night to begin a process that eventually could lead to the use of eminent domain to clear land needed for the upcoming water plant project.
Commissioners authorized a resolution “deeming it necessary and in the public interests of the City of Arkansas City to acquire ownership of real estate for a public improvement project to construct a city building and water treatment facility, by authorizing condemnation proceedings in eminent domain as provided by law.”
The property in question is 510 W. Madison Ave. and it is owned by Shirley Dorrell.
“Our goal is to visit with her, see how we can work together and come to an agreement,” said Arkansas City City Manager Nick Hernandez, who added that Munson Appraisal recently had appraised the property’s value at $30,000.”
