Land swap might solve eminent domain suit
“The City Council called a public hearing Monday night about trading some city property for land belonging to owners of the former Hollywood Video.
The swap is planned as part of the construction of a new traffic roundabout underway at Converse Avenue, 19th Street and Pershing Boulevard.
The swap proposes that the city of Cheyenne trade city property at the northwest corner of the roundabout for part of the former Hollywood Video parking lot.
The land exchange is part of a plan to end an eminent domain lawsuit between the city and the owners of the former Hollywood Video building.
The city would get 9,504 square feet of parking lot space at the former Hollywood Video. The land is part of the traffic roundabout there.
Owners of the Hollywood Video building would get two lots owned by the city at the corner of Pershing Boulevard and Converse Avenue, said City Attorney Dan White. White said the land would provide 22 parking spaces.
The land the city would exchange is valued at about $81,590. Land that the city would get in the swap is valued from $190,000 to $237,000, White said Monday.
The swap is part of a settlement agreement between the city and the business owners to end the eminent domain lawsuit.”
