The Cleverley Farms vs. DOT saga continues

“Larry Cleverley of Cleverley Farms, one of central Iowa’s good-food, farmers-market patriarchs is in danger of losing a big chunk of his farm near Mingo to eminent domain. The Iowa DOT has decided on two possible plans to redesign the intersection of U.S. Highway 65, Iowa Highway 330 and Iowa Highway 117, and the intersection of Iowa 330 and County Road F17. The intersection is about a quarter-mile from Cleverley Farms. Both plans take the house, the outbuildings and all the land on which he has grown produce for 17 years. The plans also take a chunk of the farm’s timber and row-crop land.

Cleverley wants the DOT to consider installing a stoplight at the intersection instead, a plan they have said would not be feasible, but which Cleverley says has been effective nearby in Bondurant. (Read more details of the proposal at desmoinesregister.com.)”
