Cornelia moving ahead with eminent domain proceedings
“It doesn’t happen often, but the Cornelia City Commission voted 3-0 Tuesday night to go forward with eminent domain proceedings for property currently outside the city limits, but adjacent to city-owned property.
The 18 acres in question is located adjacent to the site of the city’s proposed new reservoir and water treatment plant off Camp Creek Road and, city officials say, is needed for those projects.
“There have been discussions about this for quite some time,” said City Attorney Steve Campbell. “This is just the logical next step toward getting it accomplished to get that reservoir built.
Campbell said there is not a residence on the property in question.
“It’s just land that would be subject to the take,” Campbell said.”
