Port Authority to take land by eminent domain
“In a move more than 10 years in the making, the city’s Port Authority is going forward with plans to take a vacant 11.4-acre property in the South End by eminent domain.
“We’re basically trying to add value in that industrial district,” said David Kooris, the city’s economic development director. “Enabling companies to expand and hopefully attracting new companies with the ability to develop there. Frankly, on their own (the properties) don’t have a lot of value.”
A main beneficiary of that move will be controversial developer Sal DiNardo.
The developer, known for his political connections and the multimillion-dollar tax bill on the former Remington Arms site, owns several buildings on either side of the wooded parcels on South Avenue and Atlantic Street, including facilities where Sikorsky once planned to assemble the U.S. Army’s Comanche reconnaissance helicopter.”
