City to Hotel Syracuse lender: ‘It’s not over’
“Twice frustrated in their efforts to seize the historic Hotel Syracuse for back taxes, Syracuse officials are considering a more aggressive move to take the property through eminent domain.
Mayor Stephanie Miner said today that city lawyers will consider filing an eminent domain action to condemn the hotel, a legal proceeding under which municipalities can forcibly acquire private property for public use.
Eminent domain “appears to be the most likely next step,” said Ben Walsh, the city’s deputy commissioner of neighborhood and business development. But there are still many details to evaluate before going ahead, Walsh said.”
