Leesville farmer’s land could be seized by eminent domain
“To construct a new sewer system for the village of Leesville, council members have voted to take a private property owner’s farmland, by using the emiment domain process.
Ohio law states that eminent domain gives a governmental body the right to take a private property for “a justifiable public use,” as long as the entity offers the owner fair compensation.
Village Solicitor Jason Jackson said Leesville Village Council is pursuing the property because it needs to address the failure of nearly 75 percent of septic tanks within the village’s limits.”
