Pooler family fights eminent domain
“For months the Patel family, the city and lenders have been negotiating the potential sale of the family’s small shopping center behind Pooler City Hall at 211 W. Highway 80. But a communications breakdown led the City Council earlier this week — for the first time in its history — to invoke the power of eminent domain to seize the property.
Part of the issue is that the Georgia Certified Development Corp. and Texas-based United Central Bank hold $3.2 million in combined liens against the property.
Family attorney Kenneth Royal said he hopes city’s offer on Tuesday, which is $925,000, will appease the family’s lenders. He said Wednesday he was awaiting their initial responses.”
