Braking for the gas: Xcel pipe project means slowdowns for Fort Collins motorists

“Fort Collins city officials appear to have diffused a potential legal battle over the path a new high-pressure natural gas pipeline will take through the city.

The City Council has tentatively agreed to grant Xcel Energy an easement along a 2,000-foot section of South Shields Street north of Harmony Road to run the 16-inch pipeline known as the West Main project under the road rather than through nearby private property.

The move is the latest in a series of steps taken in recent months to prepare for installation of the pipeline, which will traverse the city with construction expected to impact local streets this summer and in 2014.”
