D.C. eyes new development partner for Fifth and Eye site
“The District reopened bidding Thursday on a 21,000-square-foot parcel at 901 Fifth St. NW that it had previously awarded to The Donohoe Cos., but that project stalled and eventually crumbled.
Donohoe won the right to develop the parcel as the mixed-use Arts at 5th and I just as the economy tanked in September 2008 (seriously, it was the same week Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. collapsed). The developer struggled to assemble adjacent parcels to move forward with the larger project, and the Arts was pared down dramatically three years later. After no movement, D.C. dropped Donohoe as its partner in February.”
