Delaware Valley board: Eminent domain claim could expedite elementary
“Delaware Valley School District is prepared to use eminent domain this week to force a land owner to allow the district an easement to use his driveway in case of an emergency.
The desired 11,500-square-foot easement is owned by Konstantinos Ferousis, who could not be reached for comment. It is an abandoned parking lot next to Milford Chrysler that abuts the school property.
The small strip of land is on Route 6/209 in Milford Township, next to the property where the district plans a $23 million elementary school.
The district has been negotiating with Ferousis for more than a year but has not been able to get a signed contract, district Business Manager William Hessling said.
The deal is stalling the school construction project.
The district needs a conditional use approval from Milford, and then it can break ground. If the approval comes soon, 2013-2014 will be the final year for the current elementary school, located at the high school campus.”
