Fresno City Council approves eminent domain for frontage road
“The Fresno City Council voted Thursday to use eminent domain to acquire two plots of land in West Fresno in order to build a frontage road alongside Highway 180.
The council voted 6-1 to proceed, with Councilmember Clint Olivier casting the dissenting vote. Scott Mozier, assistant Public Works director for the city, told the council that his department was ready to get to work on the project.
Mendrin had said earlier that the city was planning to install water and sewer lines on the property, and that along with the $13,000 the land was appraised at, he wanted a few driveways put in and a fence erected to keep passersby off of the property.
The council also voted 6-1 to obtain a much larger plot of land owned by Manheim Central California, located northwest of the Innovative Properties & Development land and home to the Fresno Auto Dealers Auction. Councilmember Olivier was the dissenting vote.”
