Eminent domain on agenda

“The district plans to build a new intermediate school at the corner of Milwaukee Road and Lee Lane. Originally the district was interested in four pieces of land, but on Friday Badger said it needs just two of the properties in order to move ahead with the new school.

The district already reached an agreement with landowner John Patch for the first property, 4.28 acres at 2600 Milwaukee Road. However, it still needs the 4.06 acres at 2570 Milwaukee Road owned by Anna Truckenbrod.

Badger said the district has abandoned the idea of using 3.19 acres at 2554 Milwaukee Road owned by Mary Densch and her husband Steve Willis. The district also will not use the 16.19 acres owned by Beloit Health System at 1650 Lee Lane. Beloit Health System announced Friday that part of that land will be used to construct a new cancer treatment center.

Because the total acreage for the two properties now eyed by the district is 8.34 acres, Badger said the district may have to meet with architects to change the footprint of the school.

The Truckenbrod property was assessed at $94,700, and appraised at $97,000 by the school district’s independent appraiser. However, the Truckenbrods’ attorney hired its own independent appraiser who placed the value of the land at $414,000, Badger said.”
