Aurora to purchase Fan Fare for $4M
“The former shopping center, now known as the “bubble building” and which many consider an eyesore, has sat vacant and been deteriorating for more than 30 years. It’s located at 333 Havana St.
Members of the Havana Business Improvement District (BID), doing business as “On Havana Street,” for years have urged the city to do something about the Fan Fare site and in 2010, contributed $10,000 toward a blight study.
That purchase price includes demolition and “complete site abatement to eliminate serious environmental hazards, such as the existing asbestos,” according to a Monday press release from the city.
Owner Capital Financial Ventures, a group that includes Herb Buchwald of Tri-Havana LLC and Larry Mizel, CEO of M.D.C. Holdings, agreed to demolish the site and clean it before handing it over to the city if it got extra money in the sales price.”
