UPDATED: Council considering eminent domain taking of Wyman-Gordon site
“Worcester Mag first reported a move to shore up council support for a possible eminent domain taking of the land, which is reportedly being eyed by developer Richard Friedman of Carpenter & Company inc. in Cambridge for a hotel. Other sources reportedly confirmed a slot casino is among the facilities Friedman is considering for that site. The city welcomes those discussions, according to the source, and the consideration of land taking is not directed at Friedman or any other potential developers. Nor is it an attempt to protect the interests of citizens against a slot casino. The council is merely sending a message to Wyman-Gordon, whose parent company is Precision Castparts Corp. For the past 10 years, the source says, officials from Wyman-Gordon have repeatedly ignored phone calls from the city. The only point of contact, according to the source, has been a property manager.
An attempt to reach Friedman for comment was unsuccessful.”
