Water agency agrees to use eminent domain in seeking water transmission line
“The Northern Will County Water Agency agreed this week to move forward with its plan to file an eminent domain lawsuit to gain control of the water transmission line serving its five member communities in the southwest suburbs.
Officials representing the agency’s members — Homer Glen, Bolingbrook, Lemont, Romeoville and Woodridge — voted unanimously to proceed with a lawsuit against American Lake Water Co. in seeking its Bedford Park transmission line, said agency co-chair Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar.
“They rejected the second offer,” he said. “They said it wasn’t for sale.”
The transmission line brings Lake Michigan water to customers in the southwest suburbs. The water agency’s members say their water rates are too high and they hope to reduce them by acquiring the line. Agency co-chairman and Homer Glen Mayor Jim Daley said the agency’s ownership of the water transmission line would lead to better water rates for residents in the future.”
