Council votes to take Elks, Klahr buildings by eminent domain
“Middletown Borough Council voted 7-2 on Tuesday, Oct. 16 to acquire the Elks Theatre building at the corner of Union and Emaus streets in downtown Middletown by eminent domain, the latest move in an ongoing dispute between council and the Greater Middletown Economic Development Corporation (GMEDC), which owns the building. Council members have accused GMEDC of misusing state grant funds it directed to the corporation that were meant to improve the borough, and have questioned GMEDC’s ability to pay back the funds.”
