Florent ‘Tony’ Baker, 93

“Florent “Tony” Baker, 93, of Bar Harbor, Maine, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at the Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Center in Providence after a brief illness.

Tony was born in Pawtucket to the late Emile and Alexina (Coté) Baker on Aug. 9, 1924. He was also the stepson of the late Eva Fountaine. He lived his early life in Pawtucket except for spending a few years at the orphanage in Woonsocket, R.I., after his mother Alexina died in Canada in 1929. Both his parents were originally from Quebec, Canada.

After the Great Depression, his father remarried and relocated the family to North Attleboro in 1938. Tony found work at Sayles Dairy Farm as a youth during World War II, a job that he always said was his most favorite in his entire life. Farming and farm life was always near and dear to him.

In 1947, he married Rosemarie Caron of Plainville, where they made a home together on Belcher Street and raised their family. In 1965 they moved to Washington Street after their home was taken by eminent domain to build Route 495.

For a time, he worked for Emile Baker and Son, plastering and learning the trade, a skill he used throughout his life.”
