Colorado considers limit on open-space land seizures
“A lengthy court battle over government seizures of private land for open space has inspired a bill up for its first vote Tuesday in the state Legislature.
The bill would prevent counties from using eminent domain laws to seize private land for open space, parks, conservation or preservation of views.
The measure was inspired by a Summit County family that sold a 10-acre parcel in the mountains last year after a long court battle with the county. The county used eminent domain to acquire the parcel.
A vote on the measure was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in the Senate Local Government Committee.”
