Indiana mayor wants old house turned into police substation

“The mayor of a southern Indiana city wants to turn a pre-Civil War era home that now sits in the city’s newest park into a police substation.

But Jeffersonville officials face some hurdles before Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore’s plan to restore the 175-year-old home and turn it into a police substation can become a reality.

The News and Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1zoxk7P ) the city’s attorney has filed a legal complaint to acquire the house through eminent domain. That move follows a year and a half of failed negotiations with owner Clinton Deckard to restore the home, which now sits in a brand-new downtown park called Big Four Station.

But Deckard must address a nearly $270,000 federal tax lien before eminent domain can occur.”
