Conestoga Township readies ordinance against pipeline
“Several municipalities have passed resolutions against the proposed pipeline and Conestoga Township in Lancaster County is poised to take it a step further.
It’s a township known for a large piece of equipment used in transport, but when it comes to a large piece of pipeline used to transport natural gas, Conestoga is drawing the line.
Some community members in the township are preparing an ordinance that would make it illegal for a pipeline or any other unsustainable energy source to come to Conestoga – even if the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission gives it the OK.
“This is a for-profit company, taking people’s property possibly by eminent domain,” said resident Joe DeLuca.
By trying to protect itself, the township could also be opening itself up to lawsuits.”
